What types of equipment and facilities do you have available for personal training sessions?I operate out of a private personal training studio in Little Wymondley (just a 5 minute drive from Hitchin, Herts and only a 3 minute drive off of the A1, junction 8). The studio offers privacy and exclusivity to ensure that we can work together with the peace of mind you deserve. With regards to equipment, the studio bodes a wide range of equipment. Below is an image of the studio with all the pieces of equipment. A lot of the time however, exercises are customised around you. There are so many ways to personalise an exercise, and make it a variation suitable to you and I take special pride in selecting the best movement variables and creating exercises/workouts crafted just for you. In addition to equipment, the studio also makes use of having a treatment clinic, toilets & 2x showers

How often should I attend personal training sessions or sports therapy appointments to see results? As with most of my answers, it depends (I’m sure you can spot a trend here). It’s no surprise that regular exercise and activity is beneficial to our health - whether that be weight related, mood & stress related, or quality of movement related. People can see results from training with me once per week, provided they are staying adherent and being active in other ways throughout the week. If, on reflection, we discover that being active and staying adherent outside of our sessions together is going to prove difficult, then we may decide that more sessions together might be the right step to increasing adherence, motivation and consistency. During our consultation, we’ll openly discuss your ability to be active outside of our sessions together. There’s nothing wrong with admitting what limitations lie in front of us and putting appropriate measures in place to overcome that.

What methods of communication do you use to provide ongoing support and guidance to clients? However you want to be communicated with. Face to face, phone call, Whatsapp, Microsoft Teams. I have zero preference in the ways we choose to stay in contact with each other, as long as we have consistency with our communication so that morale and motivation stays high to propel us further towards our goals.

What sets your approach to personal training and sports therapy apart from others in the industry? My approach is one that has evolved over the years as I’ve continued to add tools to my toolbox. A big focus for me is quality communication. This starts with active listening to fully understand your requirements and the best approach to get you there. I strive to create a comfortable and confident atmosphere during our sessions together. In terms of strategy, I believe in administering the least amount of input possible to give you the maximum output with your results - something I term “The minimum effective dosage”.

Can you provide examples or success stories of clients who have achieved their goals through your services?Weight Loss I’ll use the example of Kim here. Kim came to me having never stepped foot in a gym and having never owned a pair of gym trainers. She was incredibly nervous and apprehensive to work out in a gym environment. She was just as cautious with what she thought she could do to be active whilst being overweight. I took the time to lay out a plan of action for Kim and gave her measurable steps to reach success. Kim had the goal to lose 8 stone in weight. Over the course of 18 months (and through the trials and tribulations of two national lockdowns during covid), I helped Kim reach her goal. Pain Anna came to me after having emergency surgery for Cauda Equina Syndrome. She was quite rightly nervous and anxious about working out considering all of her efforts to be active since her surgery had resulted in more pain. Anna was stuck in a cycle of pain that led to a feeling of helplessness. Here’s what Anna has to say about our experience together. “When I first met Josh, I was at an all time low. Having suffered a serious back injury requiring surgery & being 3 months postpartum. Every time I attempted any form of exercise, I would set myself back again as the surrounding back muscles would go into spasm. I immediately felt confident in trusting Josh to recommend safe exercises to gradually build my strength and fitness. Underneath his infectious laugh and positive attitude, Josh possesses an undeniable wealth and broad spectrum of knowledge and understanding in health, fitness, diet, pain management and injury rehabilitation” Strength Testimonial from Shan

What is your policy regarding cancellations or rescheduling of personal training sessions or sports therapy appointments? While I appreciate that life has a crazy way of interfering with our schedules, I do ask for a minimum of 24 hours notice if you need to re-arrange or cancel your appointment/training session. If less than 24 hours notice is provided, you will be charged for the session.
-
How do you ensure client safety during personal training sessions and sports therapy treatments?By working to a pace and a challenge that suits you. I strive to cultivate an environment that is collaborative and supportive. Throughout my years, I’d say I’ve gotten good at recognising and balancing confidence in the movements programmed, with the intensity necessary to drive progress towards your goals.
-
Do you offer any specialised programs or services for individuals with specific health conditions or injuries?Absolutely. A resounding yes. I’ve worked with clients with all sorts of specific health conditions and injuries ranging from Chrons and IBS to chronic neck and back pain, hysterectomies and mental health issues. Broadly my approach is that, without any red flags or contraindications to exercise/s, nothing is off limits. We simply have to find the right entry point. One example of this is how I’ve had people come to me with knee pain who have been told that they should do squats yet they sit down and stand up out of chairs everyday. In this instance a sit to stand is a variation of a squat and for this person is the right entry point to starting and building towards squats.

Are there any additional resources or materials provided to support clients outside of the training sessions or therapy appointments?I will always fully support you in your pursuit of a better self in whatever ways I can. Whether that’s a programme for other gym workouts you do in between our sessions, some guidance on nutrition, educational infographics or even research papers to help further your understanding on certain topics. I will be in your corner, supporting you on your health and fitness journey.

Are nutrition and diet plans included in the personal training services?Nutrition plans containing specific meals are not included for many reasons. For one, I am not a nutritionist, so this would be out of my scope of practice and inappropriate for me to do so. I do, however, give nutrition guidance and support. This includes providing education and information on nutrition concepts that will enable you to make the right choices that suit you.
